CMMC controls require that we take an active role in ensuring that any mobile device with access to Helix systems is properly secured. Specifically, our mobile device management system is configured to do the following:

  • Enforce that every mobile device has a pin-code
  • Enforce that every mobile device has Operating System updates applied in a timely manner
  • Enforce that only pre-approved, properly secured mobile devices may have access to company data
  • Ability to do a remote-wipe in the event a device is lost or stolen

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does the MDM track my location? --- No.
  • Does the MDM read my emails or text messages? --- No.
  • Does the MDM record my calls or call history? --- No.
  • Does the MDM monitor my website usage or history? --- No.
  • Can the MDM system take remote control of my device? --- No. Remote Control is blocked by Apple for security reasons. No one anywhere can take remote control of anyone's iPhone. You can share your screen with IT for troubleshooting, but this can only be initiated manually by you, and IT will not have the ability to control anything. It will only allow them to see your screen while you have it enabled.
  • Can the MDM see which apps I am using, how often I use them, or when I use them? -- No.
  • Will this app change the functionality of the phone?  ie. prevent downloading of specific apps. -– No, there are no app restrictions configured. It does have the ability to block an known malicious app, but we have nothing on that list. For example if DHS CISA tells us that China-owned TikTock is a national security threat at some point (seems to be going that direction), it would make sense (or maybe even be required) that we block that app if we are doing gov/aero work

  • Is there anything that prevents someone from deleting the app on their phone after it is installed? -- No. It can be removed, but when it is removed it will notify IT so that we know to disable email on that device.

  • Will the data from the phone still be backed up to the cloud?  -- Yes. It doesn’t touch any iCloud settings. You can continue with whatever syncing or backups that you have in place now.
