You likely have been forwarded to this page by a Helix employee because your email server is failing one or more industry standard compliance checks. This guide is intended to help you fix and verify what is wrong with your mail configuration.

After applying fixes, you can send a test email and we will follow up with you to confirm:

TO: [email protected]

CC: [email protected]

SUBJECT: email test

Start here: https://mxtoolbox.com/MXLookup.aspx

1) Enter your domain name click on MXLookup to see what fails.

2) click the link for Blacklist Check to confirm your server IP is not on a blacklist of known infected/compromised systems

Next, confirm that TLS is ok (no expired certs). Our mail server does not accept unencrypted transmission of email, so if your certs aren't valid nothing will come through.

After applying fixes, you can use these tools to send a test email to confirm that all checks out ok:
SPF testing: https://www.appmaildev.com/en/spf/
DMARC/SPF: https://domain-checker.valimail.com/dmarc/

Recommended but not required: get your MTA-STS configured to better protect yourself.
MTA-STS testing: https://esmtp.email/tools/mta-sts/?#

TIP:

While not free, we have found PowerDMARC to be a very helpful config and validation tool that is totally worth the few dollars / month that they charge. Their tools can create the SPF, DMARC and MTA-STS records that you need with little effort or knowledge of the specifics, then all you need to do is update your DNS records accordingly.
